Background history of the Wind Wisdom Program:
In 2006, Girl Scouts from across Massachusetts took part in a special Destiny program called Wind Wisdom Group. For two weekends, they immersed themselves in the rapidly growing clean energy field of wind energy. Working with female engineers and scientists they became experts in wind energy and the political discussions that surround it.
Durring this event the girls:
- Toured a wind farm on a mountain in Vermont.
- Visited a successful wind turbine at a coastal Massachusetts town.
- Spent Earth Day on the Cape exploring different political perspectives first hand and working on model wind turbine projects.
In 2007, the activities were developed into a program that all Teen Girl Scouts and other youth can participate in on an independent basis. The patch is FREE for Massachusetts Teen Girl Scouts thanks to grant funding from the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative's Renewable Energy Trust Fund. Out of state troops may inquire about patch costs. Download a guide today and embark on your own wind wisdom quest!
