We wanted to demonstrate that an energy efficient house need not be an ugly small box, but instead could be a gracious Georgian colonial. This house couples authentic details in architectural features and finish carpentry coupled with state of the art building science that resulted in a LEED silver rating. This rating was achieved before the installation of solar photovoltaic panels a few years after occupancy. Having been inspired by NESEA fall open houses, the owners paid back their debt of gratitude by show-casing their home on a NESEA tour shortly afer moving in. Moreover, during construction and soon after occupancy, this house was a field trip site for students in the Brown University sustainable architecture course. In addition, an article about this house in the local Rehoboth newspaper was used to advertise the vrtues of green building.

     This home has many features for handicapped accessibility (large doorways, wide halls, grab bars on all tubs and showers, etc) and is designed for one floor living, allowing aging in place.
