Commercial Buildings as Virtual Power Plants

Thursday, October 16, 2014
5:30 pm to 7:00 pm
The transformation of select NYC buildings into virtual power plants capable of load curtailments on demand to meet the rising issue of peak demand management is a significant opportunity to strengthen resiliency and increase net operating income.   To achieve the pledged 100+ MW peak reduction within the current 24 month timeline and utilize the $200 million NYSERDA/ConED incentive dollars requires the fast adoption of consumer sided energy solutions that address peak demand usage.  These customer-side solutions will rely primarily on three energy asset categories:
1.     HVAC systems

2.     Distributed generation

3.     Distributed storage

This presentation will review best use-case scenarios with cost/benefit analysis for each asset category listed above.   H.G. Chissell is Senior Vice President of Strategic Accounts for Viridity Energy, a software/service firm focused on virtual power generation and advanced energy optimization. Viridity Energy is a sub-awardee on the ConEdision Smart Grid Demonstration Grant and partners with ConEdison Solutions to provide advanced energy optimization services.
