Peter Gorer AIA, RIBA, MCIArb., LEED AP BD+C is an architect, green building consultant and mediator, with extensive practice experience in the United States, Asia and Europe.
Peter’s current desire is to help green building professionals develop the tools they need to create more effective collaborations.
Collaborative processes require more than stakeholders’ good intentions, and it is easy to recall situations where relationships have deteriorated when people disagree over important matters. What ‘tools’ to reach for when positions become polarized and tempers flare?
The planning, design, construction and effective operation of green buildings rely on the actions of many different stakeholders. How to provide information that enables people to make well-informed decisions? How to ensure that everyone’s voice is heard?
Although technologies provide environmentally-effective capabilities, actual success is often the result of what people have chosen to do over time. Going forward, how to negotiate robust commitments that stakeholders are really willing to live up to?
Peter’s practice has extended to collaborations with a wide variety of clients in both the public and private sectors. He has worked with advocacy groups; consulted with users to create space programs, and designed architectural solutions. Peter has managed projects throughout the construction process; and he has conducted independent facility performance evaluations for clients with large portfolios and substantial stewardship responsibilities.
Working in the Courts, Peter has mediated cases by being impartial and facilitating productive conversations that enable the parties involved to seize the moment, identify fairness and craft legally-recognized agreements based on their own terms.
Peter is a founding Board Member of the USGBC Massachusetts Chapter. He was a co-chair of the GreenBuild 2011 International Summit Working Group, and he continues to be actively involved with several professional associations.
