This virtual Pro Tour went behind-the-scenes with members of the team responsible for the Tree of Life project, a new building in Queens that includes 174 units of Passive House certified housing, a community health center, and a community facility operated by the First Presbyterian Church of Jamaica. We heard how the project team worked together to satisfy both high performance certification goals and the needs of the community the building was designed to serve.

About the Event

Through a mix of video, presentation, and small group breakout rooms, we used a format that preserves the interactive, behind-the-scenes vibe that has made NESEA’s Pro Tours so popular.

Unlike a traditional webinar, attendees came with their mics and cameras on: as a participant in this event, they were able to see and hear other attendees, ask content experts questions directly, and meet new people in the NESEA community

About the Project

This 12-story, mixed-use, certified Passive House building in downtown Jamaica, Queens 174 units of needed mixed-income affordable housing, a non-profit community healthcare facility, and community space. Attendees learned about many aspects of making such a large-scale project a reality, including details of the structural system, envelope, the window details, construction sequence coordination and air sealing. Speakers also described decisions around the solar array, the ERV/VRF system and other HVAC considerations.

This project was recognized as a Round One Winner in NYSERDA’s Buildings of Excellence competition. The Buildings of Excellence Competition, administered by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), was launched in March 2019 and has awarded over $31 million to over three dozen exemplary new construction projects.
