NESEA returns to central New York for a Pro Tour of the LEED Platinum (pending) MacArthur Elementary School.  This new-construction, high-performance school is the result of a collaborative, stakeholder-driven design process led by Ashley McGraw Architects. Pro Tour attendees will learn about the history of the building and the efficiency and resiliency strategies that were integrated into the project.Aerial of school and river

The MacArthur Elementary School was declared a total loss after being flooded with contaminated river water in 2011. The replacement building was designed with form, function, and occupancy behavior and comfort in mind. For example, spaces like classrooms are tightly controlled with incorporated displacement induction units and radiant flooring while other spaces, like corridors and stairwells, are allowed greater variance and maximize efficiency.

The MacArthur Elementary School has been recognized with the AIA New York State 2016 Excelsior Award, the AIA Central New York 2016 Award of Excellence, and the 2016 American School & University William W. Caudill Citation (Top PreK-12 Entry).
