NESEA Board of Directors Reunion!

Event Date: Monday, June 16, 2025
Time: 6pm-8pm
Location: Providence, RI

Calling all former NESEA Board Members!

This year, as we mark NESEA's 50th Anniversary, the current Board of Directors is hosting a reunion reception for former board members. Turning 50 is a major milestone for us, and we are throwing a party to thank former board members who have all helped to shape the organization and get us to this point. Former board members are also invited to join us for an afternoon session of breakouts and activities before the evening party.

If you are a former board member who wishes to attend and has yet to RSVP, please email Florence MacGregor at fmacgregor@nesea.org.

Apply to Serve on the NESEA Board of Directors

Deadline: Friday, July 11, 2025

Each year, the NESEA Membership elects individuals to serve on our Board of Directors. If you are interested in being considered as a candidate, you can complete the application here (you must log in to view the form). The deadline to apply is July 11.

Current members of the Board’s Nominating Committee will review and vet applications to develop a slate of candidates for the ballot. The NESEA Membership will be invited to cast their votes this fall, and the new Board term will start on January 1, 2026. Prior to applying, we recommend viewing the Board Member job description.

We're looking for people who love NESEA and feel a call to serve its mission and vision. We encourage applications from individuals who identify as women, people of color, or LGBTQ+, and other groups traditionally underrepresented in our industry. We also recognize that serving on a Board of Directors and attending in-person meetings may be prohibitively expensive and have made funds available to support board members for whom participation would be a financial hardship.

Questions? Contact us at nominating@nesea.org.

Pro Tour: Under Construction Passive House with Integrated PV Roof

Event Date: Friday, June 13, 2025
Time:
1pm-5pm
Location:
Bethany, CT
CEU Information:
AIA (pending)
Cost:
$35 Members/$45 Non-Members

Join us on June 13, in Bethany, CT, for a tour of an under construction single family home being built to Passive House standards. The event hosts hope to showcase this residence, which will be net zero ready, as an example of a high-performance residence with minimal environmental impact.

A state-of-the-art metal roof integrated with photovoltaic panels (one of the first installations of its kind in the nation) will offset 100% of demand, including battery storage and electric vehicle charging. Sustainability extends to material selection, with naturally weather-resistant cedar siding finished in a traditional charring process for durability without chemical treatments.

The event will begin with an opening presentation, with details including the design strategies, materials selection, performance goals, and site considerations of the project. Attendees will then break into small groups to tour the facility while hearing more from the interdisciplinary team of experts who made the building possible. After the tour, we’ll regroup for a reception and Q&A, giving attendees the opportunity to chat with the day’s speakers and each other. We hope to see you there!

Justice and Equity Community Meet Up: NYC

Event Date: Tuesday, June 10, 2025
Time: 5:00pm-7:00pm
Location: Manhattan, New York City, NY
Cost: free

On June 10, the NESEA Board of Directors will be hosting an in-person meet-up for people working in industries connected to NESEA who have identities that are traditionally underrepresented in the field. We are hosting this get together in response to requests from people in our community who have asked us to create more opportunities to foster connections, share experiences, and build support and community in a relaxed, social setting.

We are specifically inviting people who have marginalized identities, including women, LGBTQIA, BIPOC individuals, people living with a disability, and others who could benefit from this community building. If you are interested in this event but have questions about whether or not you should attend, please email NESEA Board Chair Andrea Mancino at inclusion@nesea.org. NESEA envisions a vibrant and resilient built environment that supports climate justice and equity. Events like this are in service of that vision.

A similar event is planned for Boston in September. You can read a recent Open Letter from the Board of Directors here, which addresses the current rhetoric-at-large across the country and how it relates to our strategic plan and NESEA's work.

Calling All HERS Users: Help Evaluate and Improve HERS-Related Training Programs

Diversity, equity, and concern for the environment are alive and well in Springfield, Massachusetts. Our non-profit, the Afro-American Workforce Development Group has received a generous planning grant from the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center to evaluate and improve HERS-related training programs. We want to understand how well current HERS training meets real-world needs—and how it can be made even more valuable for the professionals who rely on it.

We’re conducting brief Zoom-style interviews (30–40 minutes) with HERS users and would love to hear from you. As a thank-you, we’ll make a donation to a cause of your choice on your behalf. If you’re interested in sharing your experience—or know someone who might be—please reach out to alex@afroamwork.org. Interviews begin this week. Let’s make this training better, together.
