New Frameworks, a worker-owned cooperative design and construction company based in northern Vermont, is hiring an Architectural Technician/Draftsperson to add to our team. We are a busy, fun, egalitarian-yet-structured, creative, kind, and mission-driven group of people working together towards the goal of developing ecological and social climate justice and regeneration practices in the building and design trades. Our ideal candidate has at least 2 years of experience in architecture and is savvy with Revit, Sketchup/FormIt, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and Bluebeam. Their focus will be supporting our design team in the creation of construction documents, but they will also have a hand in preparing presentations and proposals, visiting job sites to take as-built measurements, and researching code requirements. An interest in building science, life-cycle analysis, mechanical systems, and low-energy design is a plus. the New Frameworks Team

Position responsibilities include:

  • Core member of Design Team and active participant in all committee work and meetings
  • Participate regularly in quarterly All-Company Meetings to help steer direction of the company and be an active member of the Design Committee
  • Working closely with the Design Project Manager & Lead Designer to bring schematic design to complete construction documentation and as-builts
  • Preparing project presentations and proposals with the team
  • Assist Lead Designer to manage and update all information and documents related to Design (e.g. drawing sets, version-control, product selections, finishes, specifications) accurately on shared file storage for team access
  • Researching new materials and cutting-edge technology and fully understanding detailing requirements to continually improve materials used in our projects
  • Working with the Lead Designer to ensure code-compliance in regards to design
  • Facilitate energy efficiency incentive program requirements for clients
  • Measuring & documenting existing conditions as needed
  • Work with Construction Site Lead & construction sub-contractors to provide build-able information for projects, and support Construction Administration responsibilities
  • Support crew training on new design detailing and creating mock-ups when needed
  • Develop and support projects within Gryphon Products (Doors and Straw Panels), and support the Building Performance team with technical documentation

We are looking for:

  • 3+ yrs experience in a design or architecture office, or a degree in architecture and 2 years experience in an architecture office
  • High proficiency and experience in using Revit design software
  • Competent in AutoCAD and Sketchup/FormIt software
  • High competency in Adobe Creative Suite and Bluebeam
  • Experience and understanding of creating construction document-level drawings
  • Reliable transportation for necessary site visits
  • A base-level knowledge of building science, and/or strong desire for understanding
  • Education or experience in structural design and/or working with structural engineers
  • Education or experience in mechanical design and/or working with mechanical engineers
  • Education, experience, and/or a strong desire to move into mechanical design, life-cycle analysis, and/or energy assessments.
  • Prior knowledge and understanding of building element specifications (e.g. windows & doors, air-tight detailing, sustainable product selection)
  • Field experience in construction, renovation, trades and/or energy & weatherization work

Compensation:

  • $44,352-$48,384 annually depending on experience, plus paid time off, benefits, education, and profit sharing.
  • Position has a 3 month trial period with review to ensure a good mutual fit.
  • After the 3 month trial, vision and dental insurance provided, 100% paid by company.
  • Profit sharing at the end of the fiscal year. Amount is based on ownership percentage.
  • Workers Compensation coverage (standard).
  • AFLAC coverage (some paid by company, some elective/additive on company plan, deducted from member’s paycheck as desired)
  • 80 hrs paid time off.
  • $200/year pp for personal tool or tech allowance.
