Overview

Provides technical support and program guidance to builders, contractors, and homeowners to maximize successful completion of residential and commercial energy efficiency projects. Promotes broad adoption of building and retrofit practices that deliver high levels of energy efficiency. Tracks project progress and delivers services consistent with goals established in VEIC strategic plans to achieve organizational and division goals.

Responsibilities

Works with customers, including builders, contractors, architects, engineers, homeowners and other relevant players to promote the installation of cost-effective efficiency improvements in future and existing homes and creatively overcome barriers to installation.
Provides appropriate levels of technical support that drive participation in efficiency implementation services. Educates and provides analyses of energy use, heat and moisture transport and related building science, reviews plans and specifications for energy efficient design and energy code compliance, inspects and provides diagnostics in homes and businesses, recommends improvements (including health and safety-related) and verifies installed energy efficiency measures.

Adopts and applies knowledge regarding new technical products, process improvements, and substantial technological opportunities.
Builds and maintains relationships with customer decision makers and implementation staff to develop project energy savings goals, identify and prioritize site-specific project needs and opportunities, manage customer expectations and inspect installed measures.
Supports and collaborates with other VEIC staff to deliver market-based services. For example: supporting business development efforts, involvement with VEIC-organized conferences, delivering public presentations or assisting with development of training for clients and internal staff.

Maintains accurate and timely project records and documentation and provides reports and documents as well as oral and written recommendations to the client.

Provides and models exemplary customer service both internally and externally to the organization.

Provides third-party verification and/or quality assurance services for energy and green building systems including Home Performance with ENERGY STAR, LEED, NGBS, and Passive House.

Provides guidance to less experienced Engineering staff.

Supports the coordination of activities with other staff, groups and divisions within VEIC as necessary to accomplish organizational goals and objectives.

Qualifications

Strong personal commitment to the mission, vision, goals, and values of VEIC.

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, or business plus two years’ experience in energy efficiency-related project management and/or analysis or comparable energy efficiency building trades experience, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills were acquired.

Strong understanding of energy efficient building systems, energy analysis techniques and equipment, combustion safety, building moisture issues and indoor air quality.

RESNET Rater certification and/or Building Analyst, Envelope Professional, or Heating certification from BPI; or sufficient knowledge to obtain such certification quickly.

Experience with client and contractor communications, client relationship building and account management.

Proficiency with mobile PC applications and tablet computer use, building energy modeling tools, spreadsheet, word processing and database software.

Able to work independently with sound decision-making practices while maintaining high level organizational goals.

Knowledge of relevant codes and standards.

Strong interpersonal skills and competent written and oral communications skills with ability to apply them within a team environment.

Demonstrated ability to be organized, detail-oriented, accurate and able to track progress to ensure timely involvement in multiple projects and associated tasks and competing priorities in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Capacity to learn and adapt to new situations, processes and innovation; ability to adapt style to meet the needs of individuals and/or the organization.
