This Pro Tour featured a two-family, NZE residential project located within walking distance to the Cold Spring Metro-North stop!

The hosting teams from The Figure Ground Studio and Third Floor Corporation gave attendees a detailed look into the process for designing and building these two structures, which include open floorplans with passive solar heating, compact and efficient design, a green roof, landscape integration, and accessible design. The project experts described strategies for simultaneously meeting goals around materials, energy, ecology, and budget. During the opening presentation, special emphasis was be given to energy use monitoring.

Because this project is striving for Living Building Petal certification, attendees were also given insight into the process of selecting materials with low toxicity and lower environmental impact at point of manufacture, point of use, and point of disposal. Site considerations, including site water, native and naturalized plantings, and pollinator and habitat creation, were also covered.
