Good food grown right.

About the Farm

Based in Deerfield, Massachusetts, Atlas Farm is a 120-acre certified organic, diversified family farm with its roots in the fertile soil of the Connecticut River Valley. Our produce is sold at The Atlas Farm Store and to Wholesale Customers throughout New England.

We are proud of our region-wide reputation for top-quality organic produce. We harvest from our fields and greenhouses year-round and pack storage crops for sale throughout the winter months. Atlas Farm strives to be a model of ecological food production, and to minimize our resource consumption and environmental impact with constant improvements to our farm systems.

November 2023: Valley Bounty: The Valley as a Veggie Bowl for the Commonwealth

“Farms within the three counties of the Connecticut River Valley feed our local community while supplying food to our Commonwealth and the New England region. With farmland concentrated on the western side of the state and the population densest on the eastern side, food naturally flows from our region to the larger cities. Local farms in western Mass. are uniquely positioned, with a responsive market at home and easy highway access to Boston and New York City for expanded distribution.” — Lisa Goodrich for CISA

  • The Atlas Farm Store

The Atlas Farm Store in South Deerfield opened in 2013 with the mission of supporting local agriculture by providing a vibrant marketplace for regional farm products, as well as Atlas Farm’s own certified organic produce. In 2022, ownership of the Farm Store passed to former general manager Kelly Hickey, who is committed to growing the business in continued close partnership with Atlas Farm.

  • Featured Customer: Marty's Local

“The purpose of Marty’s Local is to help build our regional food system by linking the exceptional farmers and food producers of our area with local institutions. We’re fortunate to have an abundance of high-quality growers and food producers nearby, and yet the overwhelming majority of our food still travels thousands of miles to get to us. The farmers and food producers in New England and New York can grow, raise, and make almost anything. This enormous variety of delicious and healthy foods is right here, all within a day’s drive and often much closer. By supporting these businesses, we’re growing our local economies, eating marvelously flavorful and nourishing foods, promoting sustainable agriculture, protecting farmland, and celebrating the rich heritage of our region.”

Atlas Farm partners with Marty’s Local and other local distributors to bring our fresh produce to wholesale customers beyond the geographical and logistical reach of our farm’s own delivery routes. Marty’s carries a wide selection of Atlas Farm produce throughout the growing season and into the winter months. We encourage you to connect with them!

Spring on the Farm

It’s spring, and the farm’s greenhouses are looking very green indeed. The greenhouse team has been working hard to graft tomato plants for improved vigor and disease resistance, prune and trellis the earliest plantings of greenhouse tomatoes, and seed the many thousands of plant starts that will become our field-grown crops. Meanwhile, the field production team has been preparing ground for the coming season. We will transplant the first greens and lettuces into the field in the second week of April.

From greenhouse tomatoes to fresh-from-the-field head lettuce, you can find Atlas Farm produce throughout the growing season at the Atlas Farm Store and at other local stores like River Valley Co-op Northampton & Easthampton, Green Fields Market, and Whole Foods Hadley.

No matter where you shop, purchasing local produce supports small farms and the people who work here. Thank you!
