  • Join NESEA on 5/3 for a spring Pro Tour of an under-construction single family home on Peaks Island, just a short ferry ride from Portland, ME. Our event hosts from Juniper Design + Build will be joined by additional members of the team to walk attendees through the site and history of the project, including the deconstruction and materials salvage of the previous structure. We’ll tour the house learning first-hand about the design decisions, including insulation, air sealing, and energy modeling, which were made through the lens of carbon consciousness. The house’s all-electric mechanical systems will include ERV, ducted heat pumps, electric baseboard backup, and heat pump hot water. The team will also address some of the specific challenges of building on the island in the shoreland zone. The day will conclude with a reception with light refreshments and a Q&A, before attendees take the ferry back to Portland. We hope you will join us: https://nesea.org/05-03-24

  • Our call for session proposals at BuildingEnergy NYC 2024 is open! The urgency of climate change demands bold action, innovation, and transformative leadership. In recent years, New York and the Northeast have led the country through groundbreaking changes to building codes, energy codes, and financial incentives to support climate adaptation across all sectors. Today, we have an opportunity to push our industry to achieve and even exceed these ambitious mandates. The 2024 BuildingEnergy NYC conference will be a chance to explore both the risks and rewards of moving Beyond Compliance. At this year’s conference, we challenge you to share your experiences, successes, and setbacks with projects and programs that exceed the bare minimum and innovate on existing practices. We need to be thinking beyond compliance both in terms of scope (What else?) and time (What next?). This holistic approach encompasses the intersections of health, efficiency, resilience, and financial benefits, and prioritizes the needs of people while addressing the climate crisis. A Better Future Starts Now: Building a Zero Carbon Future

I know I should have posted this immediately after the Boston Energy Conference, irrespective, this was such an important topic that I think timing did not make a difference. Sari Kayyali Lydia Lowe Elena González and myself spoke about Energy as a Human Right and how to Improve resiliency and decarbonization for Low Income Communities. Some important highlights were: Build a Plan, Engage Stakeholders - This is for the people, getting tehir opinion and their buy in was really important. There are challenges, but we are going to work through it. Thanks Northeast Sustainable Energy Association and Ben Sachs-Hamilton for organizing such a great conference and highlighting the importance of resiliency and decarbonization. Thanks to Consigli Construction Co., Inc. For supporting this purpose and ensuring that we can find ways to decarbinize low income communites.

  • NESEA's new BuildingEnergy Access program serves companies led by people historically underrepresented in the architecture, engineering, construction, and clean energy industries. This cohort-based program gives business leaders the opportunity to connect with the resources of NESEA's programs and community. We recently had the opportunity to talk with Megan Rajner, owner of Emerald House Studio, to learn more about her background, company, and the beginning of the Access experience. • Join NESEA for the first Pro Tour of 2024, a new construction passive house project that will bring 50 units of affordable senior housing to the community of Roxbury, Massachusetts. On April 26, the team behind this five-story, passive house development will open the doors to the NESEA community for a behind-the-scenes look at this project. Attendees will learn about the building’s history, design and construction, and systems, and how it fits into the master plan to transform a former MBTA bus yard into a thriving mixed-use, mixed-income community.  This fully-electric building features the first permitted Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) for emergency power over 4-stories in the City of Boston. A significant factor in deciding this design was to consolidate the equipment to make as much space as possible for the rooftop solar, allowing a 90 kw array tied to the first-of-its-kind BESS for demand offset and emergency power. Additional electric features include: air source heat pump hot water heaters decentralized per floor, all electric kitchens, and electric washing machines and heat pump dryers. Our Pro Tours in the Boston area tend to fill up fast, so don't delay registering if you are interested! Event Date: Friday, April 26, 2024 Time: 1pm-5pm Location: Roxbury, MA 02120 Learn more and register: https://nesea.org/04-26-24

The Compliance Mentor Group (TCMG), Certified MBE, WBE and DBE Company - COMPLIANCE for a STRONGER more DIVERSE workforce!

TCMG attended the BuildingEnergy Conferences & Tradeshows Boston Conference, hosted by the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association (NESEA), for the third consecutive year, and it surpassed our expectations. This year, we seized the opportunity to combine two of our workforce development programs, the Bright Futures and Construction Mentor Program (CMP), to enrich the learning experiences for our high school and post-secondary students and teachers.   We would like to express our appreciation to our program sponsors, Boston Properties (BXP) and Harvard Allston Land Company (HALC), whose generous support made it possible for our students to participate and gain invaluable insights from this remarkable industry event. The trade show served as a gateway to new learning possibilities, providing our students with a deeper understanding of the ever-evolving construction industry. Through engaging in interactive activities, attending the conference's keynote address on climate change, and participating in an organized scavenger hunt on the trade show floor, our students witnessed captivating product demonstrations, interacted with industry practitioners, and explored the latest advancements and best practices in energy-efficient building solutions.   At TCMG, we are committed to nurturing the next generation of construction professionals and equipping them with the necessary tools to thrive. Events like the BuildingEnergy Boston Conference and Tradeshow play a vital role in shaping and sustaining their bright futures.   We extend our gratitude once again to BXP and HALC for their support in our mission to empower and inspire young construction enthusiasts. We would also like to thank NESEA for accommodating our large group and making the event a resounding success. #TCMGAtBuildingEnergy #WorkforceDevelopment #BrightFutures #ConstructionMentorProgram #BuildingConnections #TCMG #EmpoweringStudents #NESEA #constructionmentoring
