I oversee Related's corporate sustainability and green development activity. Related is a real estate developer/owner/manager of $15 billion in best-in-class mixed-use, residential, retail and office property. Since 2008, the company has built green exclusively, completing 30 LEED Silver, Gold and Platinum properties, and has another 30 underway, including Hudson Yards, a 28-acre mixed use LEED ND development in Manhattan. My responsibilities at Related include representing Stephen Ross' (Related chairman and founder) interests as board member of the World Resource Institute (WRI) and founder of the WRI Ross Center for Sustainable Cities.
My career in green building began as the Sustainability Specialist for an architecture firm, during which time I co-chaired the Boston AIA Committee on the Environment and participated in the development of the DOE /EPA Lab21 Environmental Performance Criteria and LEED for Labs. I moved on to green building consulting and then into construction management to build green buildings before joining Related. During this time, I served on the LEED for New Construction Core Committee and helped with the consolidation of LEED from multiple specialized rating systems into one.
With the leverage of a major US developer now behind me, I continue to work through organizations like the Real Estate Roundtable, Institute for Market Transformation and Real Estate Board of New York to advance smart energy regulation and building policy, because this is the critical economic underpinning for good urban development and healthy buildings.
