BuildingEnergy Access Spotlight:
Maple Street Architects

BuildingEnergy Access is a NESEA initiative to support the work of WMBEs (women and minority-owned business enterprises) by connecting them with the resources of the NESEA community. Each month, we'll introduce a participating company to the wider NESEA community through a spotlight interview.

We recently sat down with Rachel Stevens of Maple Street Architects, a small, family-owned Northampton, MA-based architecture firm focusing on serving our community with the efficiency and beauty of good design. They offer full architectural services, lightweight design consultation, and everything in between, tailored to the needs of your project.

We discussed their work, running the business, and their impressions of the BuildingEnergy Access program so far. Read more...

NESEA News
Now Recruiting: BIPOC-Owned Massachusetts Companies for BuildingEnergy Access

Applications are now open for the second cohort of BuildingEnergy Access, a new initiative to support the work of women and minority-owned business enterprises by connecting them with the resources of the NESEA community. In this cohort-based program, business owners receive custom business development services, attend industry events for education and networking, receive marketing opportunities through a spotlight program, and participate in a business-owner peer group to hone their triple bottom lines practices (people, planet, and prosperity).

BuildingEnergy Access is an expansion of existing NESEA programs, supplemented with professional services from our program partner, HELM Construction Solutions. This program is designed to serve businesses led by people who have traditionally been underrepresented in the AEC (architecture, engineering, and construction) space, including people of underrepresented gender and racial identities

Who Should Apply?
Cohort Two will serve companies led by BIPOC (black, indigenous, people of color) individuals, including Latinx-identifying. Because this program is being funded with a grant from the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center, participating companies should be Massachusetts-based, or perform work in Massachusetts with an individual participant residing within the commonwealth. Priority deadline for Cohort 2 is Nov 9. Learn more and apply here.

Spread the Word to Students & Emerging Professionals: Fall 2024 BE The Future Scholarships

Deadline extended to Thursday, October 3

NESEA is currently accepting applications for the Fall 2024 BE the Future scholarship cycle from students and emerging professionals, as part of our ongoing efforts to welcome more students and new professionals into our programs and community.

If you are, or know, a current student (including community college, undergraduate, or graduate students) or an emerging professional who could benefit from connection to NESEA's resources and community, please help us spread the word. Because these scholarships do not include travel stipends, the opportunity is intended for individuals in the NYC-metro area or in an easily commutable distance.

Each scholarship includes:

  • a pass to BuildingEnergy NYC
  • an invitation-only lunch for scholarship recipients and program supporters
  • a one year NESEA Membership
  • a pass to attend a BuildingEnergy Pro Tour

These scholarships are a great way to attend NESEA events for free and to connect with our community of design, construction, engineering, policy, and finance professionals (among others!) If you are a student, or in the beginning stages of your career, this is a unique opportunity to learn and network.

New this year: students applying for a conference scholarship can also apply to be a part of our fall Energy Leaders Fellowship, an NYC-based mentorship cohort which will build on the success of our Boston-area pilot program.
