Pro Tour: Affordable Phius-Certified Passive House Midrise in Brooklyn

Event Date: Friday, December 6, 2024
Time: 1pm-5pm
Location: Brownsville, Brooklyn, New York City, NY
CEU Information: AIA (4 LU|HSW), Phius (4 credit hours)
Cost: $25 Members/$35 Non-Members

Join NESEA this Friday for the final Pro Tour of 2024: a Phius passive house-certified, 185,000 square-foot building, providing 160 units of much-needed affordable housing to the neighborhood of Brownsville, Brooklyn.

Our event hosts, Bright Power, are excited to share this project with the NESEA community, as they hope it will serve as a replicable example of how to approach housing disparities and promote sustainability in Central Brooklyn. Our event will begin with an opening workshop where the project team will discuss the history, goals and design and construction and strategies behind this project. Attendees will then break into small groups to hear more from the interdisciplinary team of experts who made the building possible. After the tour, we’ll regroup for a reception and Q&A.

BuildingEnergy NYC 2025 Open Planning Meeting

Event Date: Wednesday, January 22, 2025
Time: 3:00pm-4:30pm
Location: online
Cost: free

BuildingEnergy NYC is designed by and for practitioners (like you) in the fields of high-performance building and design, energy efficiency, and renewable energy. Share your vision and help to shape the next conference by attending our Open Planning Meeting!

We will be holding this year's meeting online on January 22, and will be asking questions such as:

  • What new skills, knowledge, and solutions are most needed in the field today?
  • How can we step up our game to meet new challenges and opportunities?
  • What session topics and speakers would create an extraordinary learning experience at the BuildingEnergy conference?

The meeting will be interactive and paced to allow thoughtful conversation with other professionals from around the Northeast. You will also learn how you can become a member of the Content Committee, which reviews session proposals and guides their development into high-quality conference sessions.

The planning meeting is free and open to all — NESEA Membership is not required to attend. If you have ideas you would like to share, but are unable to attend the meeting, please use this form.

For more information, contact Ben Sachs-Hamilton, Conference Director, at bsachs-hamilton@nesea.org.

Accepting Applications for BuildingEnergy Access Cohort 2

Applications are now open for the second cohort of BuildingEnergy Access, a new initiative to support the work of women and minority-owned business enterprises by connecting them with the resources of the NESEA community. In this cohort-based program, business owners receive custom business development services, attend industry events for education and networking, receive marketing opportunities through a spotlight program, and participate in a business-owner peer group to hone their triple bottom lines practices (people, planet, and prosperity).

BuildingEnergy Access is an expansion of existing NESEA programs, supplemented with professional services from our program partner, HELM Construction Solutions. This program is designed to serve businesses led by people who have traditionally been underrepresented in the AEC (architecture, engineering, and construction) space, including people of underrepresented gender and racial identities.

Who Should Apply?
Cohort Two will serve companies led by BIPOC (black, indigenous, people of color) individuals, including Latinx-identifying. Because this program is being funded with a grant from the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center, participating companies should be Massachusetts-based, or perform work in Massachusetts with an individual participant residing within the commonwealth. The Deadline for applying to join Cohort 2 is January 31.
