PROJECT ARCHITECT

We're growing. Join us and you will be too.

We're an award-winning residential design/build company working in Portland, Maine, and its surrounding communities. We create beautiful, energy-efficient, sustainably-built custom homes and renovations.

To be considered for Project Architect, you should have 6+ years of professional experience and have completed a 5-year architectural degree program or have a Master's in architecture, and/or be a registered Architect. Among other responsibilities, you'll be producing designs and drawings (including construction documents) from concept to permit, and coordinating communication with clients, builders, permitting departments, and our technical team.

We do things differently
For starters, we're majority women-owned and managed. As much as we admire people with mad skills, we don't hire for skills alone. We have a diverse, respectful, and positive work culture—and a fantastic team—and we're looking for people who really understand the value of that and want to be part of it.

We're invested in helping to move the building industry to more environmentally sustainable practices. We focus on high-performance building and carbon reduction. We're all in on building science and strive to use optimal techniques and materials. We're always learning. You will be too.

What we ask
You should be a good communicator, comfortable working collaboratively and committed to treating everyone in the company and our customers with respect. And no matter your role, you're expected to be organized, detail-oriented, and proactively solve problems. Design team members need to be in the office on a weekly basis and able to regularly travel to job sites in the greater Portland area. Our office is based in Peaks Island, Maine, a 15-minute ferry ride from downtown Portland. The flexibility to work remotely from home occasionally may be considered depending on the location and status of current projects.

What we offer
We are a small, tightly knit design team, so every person really counts. You'll have the opportunity to work directly with the firm's principals, while also having the autonomy to lead projects independently, with increasing design and management responsibilities over time.
The compensation range for this position is between $40 and $50 per hour, based on experience and qualifications. All employees receive paid vacations, holidays, health insurance, long and short term disability, life insurance, retirement contribution, ferry stipend, and professional education/training opportunities. And we all appreciate having a healthy work/life balance.

Skills Needed
You should have 6+ years of professional experience and have completed a 5-year architectural degree program or have a Master's in architecture, and/or be a registered architect. You must have excellent design ability, be able to lead a project from concept through completion, be comfortable hand sketching, have solid comprehension of construction assemblies and details, and have strong communication experience with clients and team collaborators. In addition, you should have:
Proficiency in AutoCad, ArchiCAD, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Products (Rendering Skills, Photoshop, InDesign a plus)
Working knowledge of zoning and building codes (Shoreland and Overlay zone experience a plus)
Experience developing drawings sets for construction and permitting
Experience and passion for designing high-performance and low-carbon-footprint buildings
Experience with material selection and specifications
