Show Your Support for NESEA and Our Programming

NESEA is, and has always been, a place where curious and innovative minds come together to share inspiration, new ideas, challenges, and solutions as we work toward a sustainable built environment. Now in our 50th year, we know that this work of building a robust, cross-disciplinary community of practitioners is as important as ever.

Today, we ask you to take this opportunity to pledge or donate a gift that reflects your personal commitment to this vision.

  • Continuation of our established core programming
  • The expansion of our community to include historically underrepresented groups
  • Pathways to success for emerging professionals and students
  • Affordable event and membership fees for all participants
  • Program development and growth in service of our strategic plan
  • NESEA’s long-term financial health and resilience
General donations are vital to the continued existence of our organization. As a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, we rely on the generosity of our community to support the member-driven, cutting edge programming and content we offer throughout the year. Please consider making as generous a gift as you can before the end of the calendar year in support of our community and our mission.

Share your vision for BuildingEnergy NYC 2026 (October 15, 2026)

BuildingEnergy NYC is designed by and for practitioners (like you) in the fields of high-performance building and design, energy efficiency, and renewable energy. Share your vision and help to shape the 2026 conference by attending our Open Planning Meeting!

We will be holding this year's meeting online on January 21, and will be asking questions such as:

  • What new skills, knowledge, and solutions are most needed in the field today?
  • How can we step up our game to meet new challenges and opportunities?
  • What session topics and speakers would create an extraordinary learning experience at the BuildingEnergy conference?

The meeting will be interactive and paced to allow thoughtful conversation with other professionals from around the Northeast. You will also learn how you can become a member of the Content Committee, which reviews session proposals and guides their development into high-quality conference sessions.

The planning meeting is free and open to all — NESEA Membership is not required to attend. For more information, contact Ben Sachs-Hamilton, Conference Director, at bsachs-hamilton@nesea.org.

Rescheduled from December 2025

You're invited to join NESEA for a Tour of a resilient new development, designed to address chronic social, economic, and health disparities in a historically underserved area of Brooklyn, NYC. This 28-acre site will replace a decommissioned state psychiatric hospital with residential buildings, a public school, health clinic, and urban farm program. The master-planned development was designed around the principle of a 15-minute neighborhood. These buildings and their surroundings were also designed for long-term environmental resilience from rising sea levels, storm events, and other effects of climate change. The buildings feature on-site renewable energy through the use of photovoltaics, geothermal, and wastewater energy recovery systems.

Attendees will tour the site and learn directly from the project team. If you're interested in community focused architecture, walkable cities, and designing with resident health in mind, this tour is "can't miss". See you there! Read more...

50th Anniversary / Annual Meeting Happy Hour Photos

We had an incredible time reconnecting with old friends and meeting new ones as we celebrated 50 years of NESEA at our Annual Meeting and Community Happy Hour. It was a real joy to commemorate the anniversary milestone with people from all over the Northeast. We’ve collected photos from all six gatherings across the Northeast—you can browse the full gallery here.

Our Annual Meeting is also when we share our Annual Report, which highlights the work and progress of the past fiscal year. NESEA had a great 2025, thanks to the learners, leaders, and doers who believe in our shared vision of a vibrant, resilient built environment rooted in climate justice and equity.

Boston Justice and Equity Community Meet Up

On November 12, NESEA hosted an in-person meet-up for people working in industries connected to NESEA who have identities that are traditionally underrepresented in the field. This was a follow-up to similar events we ran in New York City earlier in the year.

The goal of the meet up was to foster connections, share experiences, and to help inform NESEA's next steps related to our Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI), as we look for ways to best support our community. NESEA envisions a vibrant and resilient built environment that supports climate justice and equity. Events like these are in service of that vision. You can browse a gallery of photos from the event here.

11/7 Pro Tour of Franklin Cummings Tech in Roxbury, MA

NESEA was in Boston in early November for an exceptional case study of how sustainability, equity, and innovation intersect in the built environment. We held a sold-out pro tour of the new 68,000-square-foot Franklin Cummings Tech campus in Roxbury’s Nubian Square. The project embodies FCT’s mission of providing affordable technical education to a predominantly BIPOC and first-generation college student body, while also serving as a catalyst for community revitalization. Our hosts at Studio G Architects put a lot of effort and consideration into their work, and it shows.

We also capitalized on the opportunity of the day to introduce attendees to members of NESEA's BuildingEnergy Access program, designed to provide business support and connection to women and BIPOC-owned businesses. It was a terrific event and we would like to thank our hosts, sponsors, and attendees, who made day possible. You can see photos from the tour here.
