Apply to Serve on the NESEA Board of Directors

Deadline: Friday, July 24, 2026

Each year, the NESEA Membership elects individuals to serve on our Board of Directors after an open call for applications, which is open now. We're looking for people who love NESEA and feel a call to serve its mission and vision.

The deadline to apply for consideration is July 24. Current members of the Board’s Nominating Committee will review and vet applications to develop a slate of candidates for the ballot. The NESEA Membership will be invited to cast their votes this fall, and the new Board term will start on January 1, 2027. Prior to applying, we recommend viewing the Board Member job description. If you are interested in being considered as a candidate, you can complete the application here (you must log in to view the form).

We encourage applications from individuals who identify as women, people of color, or LGBTQ+, and other groups traditionally underrepresented in our industry. We also recognize that serving on a Board of Directors and attending in-person meetings may be prohibitively expensive and have made funds available to support board members for whom participation would be a financial hardship.

On Friday, August 7, NESEA will be offering a Pro Tour that demonstrates, at real scale, how high-performance building strategies can directly support both climate goals and housing affordability. We will be touring and learning about a new development in Dorchester that delivers 12 affordable homeownership units across four Passive House–designed, four-unit buildings-the first of their kind in the neighborhood. Among other building science topics, the project team will teach attendees about the off-site panelizing approach that made this project possible. This project shows how thoughtful design, rigorous performance standards, and repeatable construction methods can produce healthier, lower-energy homes without sacrificing cost control or delivery timelines.

We will also be capitalizing on the opportunity of the day to introduce attendees to members of NESEA's BuildingEnergy Access program, designed to provide business support and connection to women and BIPOC-owned businesses. Following check-in and a chance for refreshments and networking, our program will kick-off with mini-presentations from program participants.

After these introductions, we'll segue into learning about our day's tour site with a presentation including the design strategies, materials selection, performance goals, and community aspects of the project. Attendees will then break into small groups to tour the facility while hearing more from the interdisciplinary team of experts who made the building possible. After the tour, we’ll regroup for a reception and Q&A, giving attendees the opportunity to chat with the day’s speakers and each other.

8-21-26 Pro Tour in Southern NH: Fully Electric, Net-Zero Energy Nonprofit Headquarters

Event Date: Friday, August 21, 2026
Event Time: 1 PM - 5 PM
Location: Keene, NH
Event Cost: $35 Members / $45 Non-Members
CEU Information: AIA, Phius (pending)
Register Now

Join NESEA for a Pro Tour of a new, all-electric, 6,000-square-foot nature conservancy headquarters in Southern New Hampshire. This recently completed net-zero energy building demonstrates how high-performance, low-carbon goals can be achieved within a typical nonprofit construction budget when sustainability goals are established early.

From the outset, the owner, architect, contractor, and owner’s project manager approached pre-construction as a collaborative process rooted in shared values. Sustainability goals were embedded in the base design rather than treated as add-ons, guiding decisions related to enclosure performance, mechanical systems, material selection, and construction methods. The project draws from Passive House principles to reduce operational energy demand while improving comfort, durability, and indoor air quality. We hope to see you there!

Pro Tours in Boston and Salem, MA

Our 2026 Pro Tour Series continued with two fascinating and well attended building tours.

On June 5, 2026, NESEA held a behind-the-scenes Pro Tour of Beacon Communities' new, 124 unit affordable passive housing development in Salem, MA. This project has been built for Passive House certification, and includes flood-resistant features to help protect occupants from coastal climate events.

Following that event, NESEA was in Boston on June 26 for a Pro Tour of an innovative new school and community facility, located on a tight, one-acre site in Boston’s dense, historic Chinatown. This building is a transformative example of high-performance, sustainable, and inclusive school.

Our thanks go out to the attendees and sponsors who made these events possible. We hope to see you at a Pro Tour near you soon!

BuildingEnergy Boston 2027 Open Planning Meeting Held

On June 17, we held our BuildingEnergy Boston Open Planning Meeting, which began the process of planning sessions for the 2027 conference.

This annual meeting brings together members of our community who want to help shape the next year's conference -- from those who have been coming to the conference for years to those thinking about attending for the first time. Additionally, it helps to ensure that conference sessions are directly relevant to our community and their work. The meeting was fun, lively, and most importantly, very informative.

Our BuildingEnergy Boston Conference Chairs will use what they learned from the meeting to shape the conference theme and call for proposals, which will open in the fall (in fact, it's not too early to start thinking about proposing a session).

If you missed the meeting, you can still share your ideas with us. We are also now accepting applications for the BuildingEnergy Boston 2027 Content Committee.

Mark your calendars: BuildingEnergy Boston 2027 will be taking place March 10-11, 2027!
