BuildingEnergy Boston Keynote: In for the Long Run

When: March 23-24, 2026
Where:
Westin Boston Seaport District
Register Now

We are excited to announce that the conference will kick off on Monday morning with a keynote address tied directly to the conference theme: Don't Stop Us Now. Those of us committed to sustainability in our field have built a robust movement, and now is the time to prove that our momentum cannot be stopped by indecision, injustice, or inaction.

We hope you will join us next month for two inspiring days of making new professional connections, learning about innovative products and programs, and taking a deep dive into specialized content with leaders in the field.

Speakers:

  • Arlen Li, Planning Principal and architect at HGA
  • Julie Newman, Ph.D., Director of Sustainability at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
  • Anthony Michetti, Director of Sustainability at Cell Signaling Technology (CST),

Climate change is not on pause, even as recent federal actions have slowed or halted many mitigation initiatives already underway. Organizations are navigating real delays, shifts in funding, and canceled programs, but the imperative remains unchanged: long-term climate science and sustainability goals must remain a priority.

In this keynote address, sustainability leaders from three organizations will present diverse perspectives on sustaining organizational engagement and environmental responsibility amid persistent uncertainties. They will examine how long-term commitments to decarbonization, climate resilience, and emissions mitigation are shaping high-performance building design, operational decision-making and future planning. Each speaker will also assess the risks and consequences associated with delaying climate action, distinguishing between areas where strategic adaptation may be necessary and those in which sustainability commitments remain non-negotiable. The discussion will highlight examples showing how each organization continues to demonstrate leadership and accountability by advancing measurable, outcomes-driven sustainability strategies despite a complex and evolving policy landscape. Climate justice takes all of us. Explore the roots of climate justice and exchange ideas about how to integrate climate justice into your work with fellow NESEA Members.

Members of NESEA’s Anti-Racist Action Group (ARAG), made up of participants from our Bottom Lines program, invite you to join us for this interactive, virtual workshop. We’ll learn about the basics of climate justice, its origins, and connections to other movements that are making an impact today. Together, we’ll identify how our own work may be shaped or informed by a climate justice approach.

You'll leave this community conversation with your NESEA peers inspired to take action and learn more.

This workshop is being presented and facilitated by AORTA, the Anti-Oppression Resource & Training Alliance.
