This September, NESEA invites you to join us for a tour of two recently completed multifamily buildings in Portland, both built to Phius standards. Together, these side-by-side buildings provide the community with 95 units of high performance affordable housing. Not only will this event showcase the design and construction of the buildings and their systems, we will also learn about their place in the larger context of the Mercy Hospital Campus Redevelopment project and the surrounding neighborhood.

Our event will begin with an opening workshop led by our host, ReVision energy, and their project partners, detailing the history and goals of the project, which has been driven by Community Housing of Maine (CHOM).

We’ll then split into groups to tour the buildings, doing a deep-dive with the interdisciplinary team of experts: attendees will learn both the technical aspects of the building science as well the financing pathways and partnerships that it took to make this project a reality, and how this work fits into Portland’s Green New Deal. We will regroup at the end of the day for a Q&A and reception, to celebrate the projects and to network.

About the Buildings

Of the 95 units, there are a mix of units reserved for different categories of occupant, including accessible units, long-term homeless, and workforce housing. In the face of the housing crisis, particularly in Portland, these buildings are incredible examples of what affordable housing can look like.

On-site amenities include a community lounge and kitchen, laundry rooms, manager and resident services offices, tele-med capabilities, outdoor gathering space and more. The projects were designed and built to meet Phius Design Criteria and requirements, but did not pursue certification given financial restraints.
