Black Mountain Architecture is an award-winning sustainable architecture firm based in Saranac Lake, NY within the Adirondack Park. We value collaboration, craft, and the small-town community within which we work and live. We are currently seeking an Architectural Designer to join our team. Our ideal candidate is a self-motivated individual interested in creating innovative work in a fast-paced collaborative environment. At BMA, Architectural Designers are responsible for assisting project teams and working on a variety of projects from schematic design through construction administration. Applicants should have a general knowledge of building systems, sustainability practices, and an understanding of appropriate constructability within a project budget. This position is full-time and based in our Saranac Lake office. Remote work is possible.

Responsibilities:

  • Work effectively in collaboration with the Principal and Project Architect.
  • Produce 2D and 3D design deliverables.
  • Research building systems, building assemblies, and other potential specifications.
  • Attend and document client, consultant, and contractor meetings.

  • Strong organization and the ability to check work for accuracy, omissions, and legibility.
  • BIM modeling experience (Archicad preferred).
  • Digital graphic experience with Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Project management experience with Microsoft Office.

Experience/Qualifications:

Required:

  • 1-3 years of relevant work experience.
  • A strong passion for learning.
  • An interest in sustainability, high performance, low carbon design.

Preferred:

  • Undergraduate or master’s degree in architecture.
  • Commitment to obtaining professional registration in the State of NY.
  • LEED accreditation.
  • Passive House certification (CPHC or CPHD&C).

Compensation:

The annual salary for this position is based on experience and includes a competitive benefits package, including paid vacation, sick days, and retirement plan.
