NESEA went to the White Mountains for a Pro Tour showcasing a high performance institutional building that combines the traditional character of a mountain lodge with ambitious performance goals.
Led by event hosts Maclay Architects, our tour provided a chance for attendees to learn about the design, materials, and mechanical systems of the lodge which was built to serve the Dartmouth College community. The building includes a reception and concessions area, a library, and a dining and social space with locally-harvested custom wood tables and benches to seat over 100 people, a full commercial kitchen, bunkrooms, and meeting room.
Attendees at this tour learned how the project team balanced achieving goals around building performance, limiting site environmental impact, and meeting the client's priority of preserving the character of the previous lodge.
