Comfort & Savings for All: Talking Decarbonization with Anyone
Effective decarbonization depends on reaching households with the highest energy burdens — and on how we talk about energy efficiency. This interactive workshop draws from City of Boston focus groups and trusted community partnerships to show how comfort, health, and cost savings unlock participation in small-building decarbonization programs. Through hands-on exercises, you will gain practical communication tools to reframe conversations and help clients move from “that’s not for me” to “this works for my home!”

Apply focus group methodologies that build trust with any group through equitable and accessible engagement practices.
Draw on critical links between energy efficiency goals and community welfare priorities (such as food security, health, and cultural accessibility) to design decarbonization or energy incentive campaigns that bring win-win solutions for resident wellbeing.
Apply narrative reframing techniques to communicate health benefits clearly to residents or the public and transform perceptions of energy efficiency programs from inconsequential to valuable healthy retrofits.
Identify barriers to program participation impacting resident health and economic burden and develop solutions for reducing energy burden and indoor air pollutants with resident’s input (show this as a model for other jurisdictions).
