Deep Energy Retrofits, Round 3: A Holistic Cost Analysis
This session offers fresh perspective on previous NESEA presentations, “Why We Stopped Doing Deep Energy Retrofits” (2023) and “The Deep Energy Retrofit Controversy Revisited” (2024). Following these presentations, Kyle Macht was inspired to create an analytical tool with a wider boundary analysis that considers upfront costs, future maintenance, embodied and operational carbon emissions, and IEQ. Kyle and Michael Hindle will explore whether, with a more holistic analysis, deeper retrofits can be a more sustainable and cost-effective option, and whether we can work within current market systems to align our action with planetary goals and human health.
