Mikael Amar is a Senior Energy Policy Analyst at the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), overseeing the agency’s energy and greenhouse gas (GHG) projects, policy, planning, budgeting, and billing. Mikael was selected by the Department of Citywide Administrative Services as the Energy Analyst of the Year for the City of New York in 2016 for his management of DEP’s $100 million annual energy budget, $75 million in energy grant funding, and 18 megawatt enrollment in the Demand Response Program. Mikael is a key liaison for DEP in OneNYC’s 80×50 and Zero Waste efforts, having come to DEP from the NYC Mayor’s Office where he co-authored the Citywide Inventory of GHG Emissions. Prior to joining NYC government, Mikael worked in the private sector in four continents and has traveled to nearly two dozen countries across the globe. He holds an M.Sc. in Sustainability Management from Columbia University and a B.Sc. in Environmental Science and Policy from the University of South Florida.
