NESEA will be heading to the Revere waterfront as we tour a former junkyard that has been reinvented as a 6-story, 291-unit all-electric development with many interesting architectural features. This building is all-electric and PV-ready, a decision that exceeded the code requirements. Another early decision that extended beyond code requirements was to elevate the ground floor and primary utility rooms two feet above projected sea level rise. The landscape prioritizes flood resiliency and reduces heat island with permeable pavers, rain gardens, and native, sea-salt tolerant plantings. A 6,000-square-foot living roof, the largest and steepest on a residential project in New England, cascades diagonally to provide visibility from the ground.

The event will begin with an opening presentation, with details including the design strategies, materials selection, performance goals, and site considerations of the project. Attendees will then break into small groups to tour the facility while hearing more from the interdisciplinary team of experts who made the building possible. After the tour, we’ll regroup for a reception and Q&A, giving attendees the opportunity to chat with the day’s speakers and each other.
