Located in Avon, CT, we are seeking a full time Project Architect to join our growing and enthusiastic team. This essential position supports our ability to guide satisfied clients through the process of designing and constructing residential projects that look good, work well, and feel good to be in while reducing the environmental impact and enhancing the comfort, health, durability, and energy security of the home.
Your Opportunity:
Our ideal candidate has experience (5+ years preferred) in a residential architectural and/or design setting. Applicants must be passionate about residential design and have experience in working with clients, contractors, consultants, and project team members in a collaborative fashion.
This isn't just any architectural job. This is an opportunity to collaborate in expanding Wolfworks design voice and its integration with craft experience. As a leader of the design guidance our client's value you will set the stage for the successful completion of new high performance and remodeled homes that are great places to live. You will be self-managed and be the lead designer for all of your projects.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities (Contingent on level of experience)
Sales and Marketing:
- Collaborate with design and sales team to perform preliminary Feasibility and Orientation Studies with potential clients
- Visit existing homes to review potential architectural and performance improvements
- Establish a contractual relationship with clients
- Producing design project narratives (including imagery) for use as content in marketing and communication
- Participate in marketing events (tours, environmental fairs, etc.)
Design Process
- Manage and design your own projects (with collaboration with Design and Build Team) including predesign/programing, Schematic Design, DD/CD, and CA
- Develop design schedules for all projects and integrate Build Team into workflows
- Manage multiple projects at one time
- Create presentation level drawings, renderings, diagrams, etc. and run Client Meetings throughout the design process
- Maintain documentation and meeting minute records within cloud based office files (dropbox)
- Coordinate and collaborate with consultants and trade partners as needed
- Produce drawing sets for preliminary (“Reality Check”) and Contract budgets, regulatory approvals, and Construction
- Work with Design and Construction Directors to implement/update drawing standards, templates, material specifications, etc.
Design + Build Integration
- Integrate build team (via design schedules) into constructability reviews, budget reviews, and identifying required trades for each project
- Establish pricing drawing sets and written scopes of work for Build team to produce initial (“Reality Check”) and contract budgets. Work collaboratively to complete budgets and present to client
- Review drawings with trade partners and Build Team to coordinate MEPs, Structural work, sequencing, etc. prior to construction
- Obtain regulatory approvals (zoning, building, wetland, etc)
- Provide information required for performance third party certifiers and/or solar consultants
- Support Build Team with supplemental information or design revisions during construction
Business Administration
Reviewing project job costing to gain insights that will guide future project planning
Attend internal meetings (Management, Finance, Systems, etc.)
Participate in Office Committee related tasks (Design, Sales and Marketing, HR, Fun etc.)
Preferred Skills and Attributes:
- Familiarity and desire to work in residential construction
- Understand and navigate the regulatory process, including preparation of and presentation to local Boards
- Able to measure, photograph and record existing conditions
- Develop architectural concepts from Schematic Design through Construction documents
- Prepare detailed technical drawings
- Able to work with sub-contractors and tradespeople to advance construction projects
- Work with professional engineering consultants
- Proficiency in Revit
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Photoshop/Indesign, preferred
- Experience designing and managing multiple projects
- Ability to produce and present design work to clients and contractors at various stages
- Excellent oral and written communication skills required both internally and with Trade Partners
- Registered Architect or on path to licensure
- Interest in building science and knowledge of high performance construction
- Passive House, LEED, Living Future accreditation or interest in certification
Salary and Benefits:
- Compensation range from 80-95K (based on experience and qualifications)
- Includes paid time off, holiday pay, 401K match, and profit sharing based on profitability
