Pro Tour: Under Construction Single Family Home, Being Built for Passive House Certification
Sherborn, MA
United States
AIA, Phius (pending)
Join NESEA for a Pro Tour of a new construction, custom single-family home in Sherborn, Massachusetts, designed to minimize embodied carbon, maximize operational efficiency, support healthy indoor air quality, and mitigate negative impacts to the immediate watershed, all while providing a beautiful space and functional space tailored to the client’s lifestyle. This home is also being built to Passive House standards with the intention to pursue certification.
The client encouraged the design and construction team to go beyond standard high-performance best practices and to thoughtfully evaluate materials, systems, and construction approaches with relevance to the evolving future of residential construction. The result is a pragmatic, high-performing home that balances durability, occupant health, and both embodied and operational carbon considerations. This home is currently pursuing PHIUS certification.
Our event will begin with an opening workshop led by our hosts, ZeroEnergy Design, where the team will discuss the history, goals, and design and construction strategies. Special attention will be paid to materials and mechanical sysetms. Attendees will then break into small groups to tour the building while hearing more from the interdisciplinary team of experts who made it possible. After the tour, we’ll regroup for a reception and Q&A, giving attendees the opportunity to chat with the day’s speakers and each other.
