On September 4, NESEA returns to Burlington, VT for an in-depth Pro Tour of a new, all-electric high school and tech center. We’ll be visiting a 250,000 square-foot campus, with over 70 learning spaces, each with natural light, including a modern library, a  750-seat auditorium, a gym, and common spaces of various sizes to best meet flexible community needs.

Burlington's new high school, replacing the former building that was demolished in 2023, demonstrates significant progress on the City's Net Zero Energy goalsThe final form of the project reflects careful attention to detail and energy use and incorporates extensive feedback from the local community. The City and building experts behind the project hope this campus can be an example for sustainable school construction in New England and beyond.
The tour will begin with an opening workshop where the team will discuss the history of the school, including the process of community buy-in and engagement and municipal financing that took the community from the previous building to the new one. We’ll also learn about the energy systems and design and construction strategies.  Attendees will then break into small groups to tour the facility while hearing more from the interdisciplinary team of experts who made it possible.
After the tour, we’ll regroup for a reception and Q&A, giving attendees the opportunity to chat with the day’s speakers and each other.
