NESEA kicked off the fall 2020 Pro Tour series with this interactive event, hosted by studioWEBSTER. It featured a newly constructed Passive House located in southern Vermont. Participants met the project team who made the house a reality.  The team shared their integrated design process, their goals for the project, and their lessons learned. Just like an in-person Pro Tour, this event used a mix of presentation with small group conversation, giving participants the chance to meet project team members and one another.

About the Project

This new home, built for a family of 5, was the combined effort of studioWEBSTER, Mathes Hulme Builders, and Helm Construction Solutions. It will be the first certified Passive House for all three firms. On a hillside in Marlboro, VT, it features a slab-on-grade with frost walls, a thick double stud wall with integrated service cavity, and truss roof with lots of cellulose. It incorporates an innovative compact  heating, cooling, and ventilation unit and had the lowest blower door number this team had ever done. Locally sawn hemlock siding, some handmade tiles (the owners are both ceramists), and a Vermont-made door give the home local shine.

About the Event

Through a mix of presentation, video, and small group breakout rooms, we used a format that preserves the interactive, behind-the-scenes vibe that has made NESEA’s Pro Tours so popular.

Unlike a traditional webinar, attendees came with their mics and cameras on: as a participant in this event, they were able to see and hear other attendees, ask content experts questions directly, and meet new people in the NESEA community.
