Karl Calvo

Karl H. Calvo joined URI in June 2019 as the Assistant Vice President of Facilities and is responsible for the planning, real estate activities, all design and construction (capital, small and utility projects) and facilities maintenance for URI’s four main campuses (Kingston, Narragansett Bay, W. Alton Jones and Providence).
Prior to joining URI, Karl led national portfolios and facilities workforces at the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the U.S. Coast Guard. He is a 30-year veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard. Karl is a graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT, the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana, IL and the University of Rhode Island with Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Civil Engineering and a Masters in Business Administration. He is also a graduate of the Harvard Kennedy School Senior Managers in Government Programs and is a certified Project Management Professional and certified Facility Manager.
