New Ecology, Inc. installed low-cost monitoring equipment in over 100 buildings in Massachusetts and Rhode Island in fall 2016. Over two years later, there is a wealth of information to share! The initial project goal was energy savings, and we saved a lot, but we were surprised about the numerous ways in which savings could be thwarted, and systems were not doing what they were supposed to. We will use real world examples to shed light on hidden problems, and discuss the current state (and value proposition) of low-cost, continuous, real-time monitoring of boilers and domestic hot water heaters.
