From Gas to Electricity with Speed and Equity
Our gas system is oversized for a future of clean electricity. To rightsize it as we transition to electricity for the least cost, greatest speed and with equitable outcomes, we must shift from retrofitting one building at a time towards neighborhood scale conversion. This will allow us to leverage synergies and cost-savings associated with avoided upgrade costs, public health, and economies of scale. The problem is how to finance and plan for these bundled retrofits. The session will explore why a managed transition saves money, why we must do so for speed and for equitable outcomes, and how we can address the myriad challenges associated with pursuing retrofits at this scale.
