Building the Energy Workforce: Hands-On Pathways from Campus to Community

College of the Atlantic has created a model for building a diverse and skilled energy workforce. Through coursework, certifications, internships, and work-study, students gain hands-on experience and expertise. Students have collaborated on retrofits of campus buildings, and provided more than 40 free home audits in rural Maine. Student interns have also worked with the Sipayik Resilience Committee, supporting their efforts to advance energy sovereignty and climate resilience for the Passamaquoddy Tribe at Sipayik. We will show the need to diversify who and how we are recruiting to build a resilient energy workforce that can work across a diverse range of communities.
