Recipient of BPI’s 2013 Tony Woods award, John Tooley is a pioneer in the field of building energy conservation. With decades of experience analyzing and upgrading homes, Mr. Tooley, a senior consultant for Advanced Energy in Raleigh, North Carolina, is considered a premier trainer and consultant in building efficiency. His work has more recently focused on how to build and manage quality processes and systems in the home building and upgrading professions.
“There’s no one in our industry who has advanced the delivery of quality contracting to customers more than John,” said Larry Zarker, BPI CEO. “He stands alone not only in having examined thousands of buildings, but also, in examining the processes of contractors who improve them.”
Mr. Tooley regularly contributes to the development of standards for building efficiency and weatherization work, most recently working on the U.S. Department of Energy’s Standard Work Specifications (SWS). SWS is the latest and most comprehensive set of standards yet adopted in the United States designed to develop worker skills and consistently high quality residential energy upgrade work.
