The Department of Sustainable Product Design and Architecture at Keene State College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Sustainable Architecture and Building Science Program (SABS) beginning fall 2018. The focus of the position will be teaching courses in building science, sustainability, renewable energy, high performance building systems, and environmental design. Course formats include classroom teaching, lectures, and laboratories, and working with students on applied research projects.

The Sustainable Architecture and Building Science Program (SABS) is a four-year Bachelor of Science in Architecture major with approximately 120 students, which is housed in the Technology Design and Safety Center, a LEED Platinum building, constructed in 2012. The facility includes architectural studio space, a building science laboratory, wood and metal shops that also serve closely associated programs in Sustainable Product Design and Innovation and Safety and Occupational Health, including its Construction Safety Management major. Altogether, the three majors account for approximately 600 students. The SABS Program has a solid commitment to engaging students in real-world projects as undergraduates and highly values undergraduate research. Students work on community-based design and analysis projects for non-profits in the local region and for developing countries. The program promotes sustainable design in all aspects of the curriculum.
Teaching load is three (4 credit) courses per academic semester. Teaching responsibilities will focus on building science, and the successful candidate will be expected to take an active role in integrating sustainable design in all aspects of the curriculum. Additional responsibilities include participating in departmental activities including advising, serving on campus-wide committees, and maintaining an active record of scholarship and professional development. Faculty may also have an opportunity to teach courses in the College’s Integrative Studies Program. For more information about this program, please see: http://www.keene.edu/isp/.

Keene State College values social justice and equity in our community and in our curriculum. Our students come from diverse socio-economic and educational backgrounds, with a high percentage of first generation college students. By the time Keene State College students complete their undergraduate experience they develop critical thinking, creative inquiry, intercultural competence, civic engagement, and commitment to well-being that will serve them as active citizens and lifelong learners. We strongly encourage individuals to apply who will support the College’s ongoing efforts to help students become responsible global citizens.
