Project Description:

The Dickson Residence is the project of David Dickson, an architectural designer and design-builder, whose passion for sustainabilty translated to his new home. The tight site thoughtfuly nestles this ~2,000 square foot home behind an existing brick wall paying homage to the previous structure that also provides privacy. The home is oriented with the largest roof plane facing south with a solar PV array for great solar exposure. Inside, the large vaulted south living room makes the most its windows by using a mass floor to reduce the heating load in winter. The home uses reclaimed beams and timbers for terrace and interior lateral support, reclaimed bluestone walk way, and salvaged items from the demolished building previously on the site. Careful planning and attention to detail created a home that weaves sustainable building practices and a refined architectural design.
