Meet the Content Committee

The content of BuildingEnergy NYC is curated by a volunteer committee of NESEA Members, who collectively put in hundreds of hours throughout the year to ensure that conference sessions are genuinely useful to attendees. 2025 Conference Chairs

Tristan Grant is an Associate Director of Codes & Policy at the New Buildings Institute, with experience in the renewable energy industry and high-performance building design and construction. As a interdisciplinary team member and project leader, he crafts positive-sum solutions for complex problems relating to energy, sustainability, resilience, health, and equity in the built environment. Tristan has experience overseeing teams providing design consultation, energy modeling, site inspections, testing and verification for green building and sustainability projects primarily in the Northeast region. In addition to managing the technical completion of project deliverables, Tristan's work has aided clients in scoping and developing comprehensive and strategic approaches to decarbonization, sustainability, and resiliency at the project and portfolio level. He has overseen the implementation of research and pilot demonstration projects, helped craft corporate sustainability strategies to aid clients in meeting internal and externally imposed sustainability objectives, co-authored industry white papers, presented at and curated regional energy and sustainability conferences and webinars, and been featured in industry articles. Tristan volunteers with NESEA on the Building Energy NYC and Boston annual conferences, and is a founding board member of the PHIUS Alliance chapter, Passive House Rhode Island (PHRI). Tristan holds a B.A from Hampshire College in Sustainable Design and Development, and a Master of Design Studies (MDS) in Sustainable Design from the Boston Architectural College. He is a PHIUS+ Verifier, RESNET HERS Rater, LEED Green Associate, and former BPI Building Analyst.

Amritha Rajan is a sustainability professional with over six years of experience providing comprehensive strategies, professional sustainability consulting insight, and creating detailed green building documentation as per client demands. Significant strengths include strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills, organized, hardworking and inquisitive, complemented by sound engineering knowledge and an interdisciplinary educational background in engineering and sustainabilitySustainability professional with over six years of experience providing comprehensive strategies, professional sustainability consulting insight, and creating detailed green building documentation as per client demands. 2025 Conference Vice Chairs

Joaquin Font is an energy and sustainability engineer with extensive experience in tackling complex challenges related to net-zero building design. During his tenure at BR+A he has worked on millions of square feet of fossil-fuel free projects doing energy modeling and system optimization. He is passionate about new technologies and believes that it is possible to build a sustainable future without sacrificing profitability. Joaquin holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Lafayette College. He is a licensed Professional Engineer, a LEED Accredited Professional, a Certified Energy Manager, and a Certified Energy Auditor. He is an active member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers, and the Association of Energy Engineers, whose NY chapter awarded him with the Young Energy Professional of the year award in 2023.

Crystal Ng, AIA, NOMA, LEED AP, CPHC is Director of Sustainability at Curtis+Ginsberg Architects. She leads the firm’s commitment to meeting the AIA 2030 Challenge and Material Pledge, including research efforts and ensuring sustainability and resiliency integration on all our projects. Crystal also leads many of the firm’s Passive House and LEED projects. For her dedication to advancing the firm’s research and innovation in sustainable building systems, she was recognized as one of Crain’s 2020 40 under 40 honorees. Crystal is a nationally recognized expert on sustainable design and is regularly invited to speak and teach about innovations in the field. Crystal is deeply committed to building equitable communities. She has collaborated on projects with Urban Design Forum, Open Architecture Collaborative, Architects Without Borders, and Habitat for Humanity. Crystal received a Master of Science in Architecture and Urban Design from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Architecture from University of Southern California.
