As BuildingEnergy Boston 2018 conference chairs, and in the spirit of transparency, Andrew Webster and I wanted to share highlights from the conference's Open Planning Meeting on June 14, 2017.

NESEA’s conference content is member-driven: you are the ones who provide the feedback and guidance from year to year to help the BuildingEnergy conferences meet your expectations. This first meeting of the planning season was to gather feedback from the attendees and participants of BuildingEnergy Boston 2017, and to summon inspiration and marching orders for BuildingEnergy Boston 2018.

After reviewing the paper and online session reviews from the 2017 conference, we received hundreds of comments from you in person, collated them into useful clouds of advice, and will use them to steer our path through the planning of 2018. We’ve created a digital record of that conversation, thanks to work by Susan Farber, Miriam Aylward, and Alysha Boynton, NESEA’s MassCEC summer intern.

Check out the notes here, and feel free to add comments in the document or post comments to this blog.

During the meeting, we also shared a bit of Boston conference news. BuildingEnergy Boston is moving this year to the Westin Boston Waterfront, right around the corner from the Seaport World Trade Center. We are excited that this change provides us with the opportunity to consolidate the conference to a more human scale, to incorporate happenings like NESEA Night into the same ticket price, and to provide our vendors on the trade show floor with the same opportunities to participate and network (and eat!) as regular conference attendees.

There is still much work ahead to sort out the venue details, and the content will be the same volunteer-driven, member-curated, cutting-edge thinking-and-sharing that you’ve come to expect from NESEA. We hope you’ll send along any further comments you have and we hope to see you and your colleagues and partners at BuildingEnergy Boston, at the Westin Boston Waterfront, March 8 and 9, 2018.

Best,

Betsy Glynn and Andrew Webster, BuildingEnergy Boston 2018 Conference Co-chairs
