Join NESEA as we kick off the 2023 Pro Tour series at the first net zero energy and net zero water elementary school in Massachusetts. This campus serves as a new model for sustainable, healthy, and resilient schools across the Northeast.

Attendees of the tour, hosted by Arrowstreet, will hear a project overview before breaking into small groups for deep dives with several members of the project team, each speaking about their particular role. After attendees hear from the speaker team, we'll come back together for refreshments and a Q&A.

Based on regenerative principles, the building design, construction, and operation will positively impact the environment by replenishing as much, if not more, resources than it uses. The building significantly reduces all sources of its full carbon footprint. The all-electric building’s operational carbon output is 33% less than a typical new school in Massachusetts. Embodied carbon was reduced by 25%. The on-site PV offsets 100% of energy use. Ground source heat pumps served by geothermal wells, battery energy storage, dynamic glazing, and Passive House-level of air leakage are included in the energy reduction strategies. The rainwater collection system captures non-potable water from the roofs for toilet flushing, which represents 85% of the school’s total water demand. An onsite treatment system collects all grey and blackwater from the building, treats it, and reinfiltrates it putting 100% of the water on-site back into the ground, making it Net Zero water. Attendees of this tour will learn how, despite an ambitious energy performance goal and complicated site, the new building was delivered for similar cost-per-square-foot as other schools in the state.

Update: Thank you to our attendees and sponsors for making this Pro Tour a success. We have assembled some photos from the event here.
