Join NESEA for a tour of the Distillery North, the largest Passive House in New England: a cost-competitive 30 unit apartment building located in South Boston. This is the first phase of a three phase project that will eventually span three buildings, 260,000 sq.ft, and an entire city block.

Pro Tour attendees will hear from Fred Gordon, who will be on-site to lead the tour and presentation, explaining the methods and materials used, and how the project team navigated the difficulties of large-scale development in the City of Boston.

Beyond its energy efficiency, the Distillery North was designed with occupant health and bigger-picture community sustainability in mind.  Among other measures, the building exceeds already high standards for indoor air quality typical for Passive Houses by adding even finer filtration to the Heat Recovery Ventilators, down to the level of micro-particles. It also integrates environmental commitments with the arts (there are 150 artists on the site), with local food production, PV electric production, car charging stations.  When completed, the three buildings together will create a micro-climate which traps warmth in the winter and allows ventilation in the summer, and includes extensive green space for recreation, art, and performances.
