In this course, led by Jersey Devil Design/Build co-founders Steve Badanes and Jim Adamson, and New York based architect Bill Bialosky, participants will engage in a hands-on process of designing and building a full scale community project. Past projects have included public playground structures, village green bandshells, park pavilions, compost privies, foot bridges, trail shelters, writers' retreats and school bus stop shelters.
Students will meet with the non-profit client, establish the program, work within a budget, propose and develop the design, schedule the work, and also construct the project, during the two week time frame of the class.
This course is open to architects and builders seeking to earn continuing education credit, as well as to students, non-professionals, and anyone with enthusiasm about design/build and giving back to the public realm. Previous construction experience is not required.
There are scholarships for this course.
This course offers 84 AIA LUs.
