Targeting High Performance Exhibitors:

The Journey of Assembling the BuildingEnergy NYC Trade Show

When I took the Sales and Marketing Manager position at NESEA back in May, I was faced with reams of paper tracking over eight years of exhibitor involvement with BuildingEnergy. After absorbing the last five years of company information, I started looking at trends.  Small companies, large companies, commercial, residential, solar power, windows, insulation, materials, HVAC, and more were all there in one way or another. But, then the question: how could I organize a structure to enliven NESEA's trade show floors? Then it dawned on me: what would it look like if we used all the components for building a healthy building as a way to target our exhibitor invitations and outreach?

What would it look like if we used all the components for building a healthy building as a way to target our exhibitor invitations and outreach?

Wow! What a difference. I wish I could say I'm an expert. But, I'm not. Concepts like CHP, HVAC, Envelope, Commissioning and others came flying at me as I tentatively started discussions with NESEA veterans about components that make a smart building, well... smart.  My colleagues in the office, members of the planning committees, and other NESEA folks started sending me excellent leads for future technologies; new products and services on the horizon. For weeks, while "building" the New York floor, I was observed around the office mumbling to myself about how we needed, simply had to have, a lighting company or our building would be in the dark! Thankfully, three companies emerged and we have illumination.

Attendees can forge new relationships with our peers in Germany and Canada, where products and services go global.

I'm happy to say, for BuildingEnergy NYC, attendees can build their own high efficiency building on the exhibit floor complete with windows, doors, an air tight envelope, insulation, heating, cooling, and plumbing. They can decide how to deliver power in the most efficient way and monitor their progress. Attendees can forge new relationships with our peers in Germany and Canada, where products and services go global.  They can explore what it means to apply Passive House principles, source products for the Living Building Challenge, and find more approaches and tools to literally "push the envelope".  And, thankfully, they can install fixtures and lights to better see a bright and innovative future.

Join us at BuildingEnergy NYC and make your smart building real.
