NESEA's First Diversity Caucus & Report

At BuildingEnergy Boston 2019, a dedicated group of NESEA Members organized the first-ever NESEA Diversity Caucus, bringing together members of our community who identify as people of color, indigenous people, LGBTQIA individuals, women, and people with disabilities. This gathering resulted in a series of recommendations for what NESEA can do to foster a truly inclusive conference, organization, and industry.
 

Scholarships & New Award for Emerging Leaders

60 NESEA Memberships and 100 event registrations were awarded to students and emerging professionals through NESEA's scholarship program this year. At NESEA Night 2019, Mariel Eisenberg Hoffman became the first recipient of the Kate Goldstein Emerging Leader Award, which recognizes a NESEA Member early in their career for current and potential engagement.
 

14 Pro Tours & the First NYC Pro Tour Series

The 2019 BuildingEnergy Pro Tour Series featured 14 high-performance projects across the Northeast, ranging from single-family Net Zero Energy homes to North America's largest affordable Passive House development.

For the first time, we offered a New York City/New York State Series, including 4 NYC Pro Tours and 4 in other parts of the state.
 

Carbon Drawdown at BuildingEnergy Boston

BuildingEnergy Boston 2019 featured one of the most groundbreaking and inspirational keynote addresses in the history of this conference, Carbon Drawdown Now! Turning Buildings into Carbon Sinks. Presenters Chris Magwood, Jacob Racusin, and Ace McArleton focused on both carbon sequestration and climate justice. This keynote address has been viewed by almost 2,000 people.
 

New BuildingEnergy Magazine Issue

BuildingEnergy magazine, NESEA's annual publication, is curated, authored, and peer-reviewed by members of the NESEA community.

The Fall 2019 issue featured 7 peer-reviewed articles—with topics from healthy materials to the role of artificial intelligence in reducing energy consumption—and was distributed to more than 2,500 people.
 

New Venue & Sold Out BuildingEnergy NYC

Between a new, more modern venue in NYC's financial district and this year's conference theme of Electrification, BuildingEnergy NYC 2019 was our most successful to date. According to one attendee: "It successfully brought a diversity of stakeholders who could learn from each other and focus on different aspects of how to reduce the carbon footprint of our buildings and communities."
