Position Description

The Energy Advisor will play a critical role in helping program participants execute building retrofit projects to achieve net-zero emissions. The role involves guiding participants through strategic planning, coordinating available resources such as energy assessments and financing programs, and providing project management support to ensure timely and successful implementation of retrofit projects.

This position is best suited for experienced professionals with expertise in energy management, procurement, and project execution, particularly in the context of building retrofits.

Objectives of this Role

  • Drive Project Execution: Serve as the primary advisor and project manager for program participants, ensuring the successful implementation of building retrofit projects to meet net-zero emissions goals.
  • Strategic Guidance: Collaborate with participants to develop actionable retrofit strategies, aligning with Local Law 97 requirements and objectives.
  • Resource Integration: Seamlessly connect participants with energy assessments, financing programs, and technical support, ensuring these resources drive project progress.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Build and maintain strong relationships with building owners, contractors, and service providers, acting as a trusted liaison to streamline project implementation.
  • Outcome Tracking and Reporting: Monitor, measure, and document project outcomes, ensuring compliance with regulations and reporting progress to stakeholders.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for improving processes and resources within the program to enhance participant success.

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities

  • Project Management: Actively oversee retrofit projects, tracking progress, addressing roadblocks, and ensuring timely completion of milestones.
  • Customer Engagement: Conduct regular check-ins with participants to review project progress, adjust plans as needed, and maintain momentum toward net-zero emissions goals.
  • Resource Coordination: Schedule and manage delivery of services such as energy assessments, financing support, and technical consultations to align with project timelines.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Facilitate communication between building owners, contractors, and technical service providers, ensuring seamless coordination and problem resolution.
  • Plan Development and Updates: Work with participants to refine retrofit strategies, incorporating evolving needs, feedback, and additional resources.
  • Progress Documentation: Maintain up-to-date records of project activities, key decisions, and implementation status using program tools and systems.
  • Compliance Monitoring: Ensure all retrofit activities align with Local Law 97 and other relevant regulations, providing guidance as needed to maintain compliance.
  • Training and Support: Provide one-on-one and group training sessions for participants to build their capacity in energy management and retrofit implementation.
  • Outcome Reporting: Prepare detailed progress reports for internal and external stakeholders, showcasing project outcomes and alignment with program goals.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay updated on best practices, new technologies, and regulatory changes to provide informed guidance to participants.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, energy management, environmental science, project management, or a related field; or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience: At least 5 years of experience in energy management, building retrofits, or related project management roles, including a proven track record of successful project execution.
  • Technical Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of building systems such as HVAC, lighting, insulation, and building envelopes, as well as energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies.
  • Project Management Skills: Strong ability to manage complex projects with multiple stakeholders, ensuring timely and successful completion while adhering to program and regulatory requirements.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences and engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to work effectively with building owners, contractors, technical service providers, and program partners to facilitate project success.
  • Analytical Skills: Proficient in analyzing building energy data and developing actionable strategies based on assessments and reports.
  • Technology Proficiency: Skilled in using project management tools, office software, and customer relationship management (CRM) systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Local Law 97 and program services.
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Project Management Professional (PMP), or equivalent.
  • Experience working with financing programs or utility-sponsored energy efficiency initiatives.
  • Familiarity with affordable housing or commercial real estate sectors.
  • Knowledge of advanced energy solutions, including renewable energy integration and electrification.
