New Ecology, Inc. is seeking candidates for the position of Energy Engineer in its Boston office to join our LEAN Team. The Energy Engineer will provide technical and management support to projects in the LEAN Multifamily Program, including evaluating existing buildings to improve their performance, scoping upgrades and full retrofits of the existing heating and hot water systems, and performing inspections to ensure work is completed to specification. We are seeking an engineer with a mechanical engineering or related degree and experience with HVAC systems and project management.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the LEAN Program’s Senior Energy Engineer, this position will collaborate extensively with project managers and other technical staff.
Specific tasks may include:
• Conducting energy audits for the LEAN Multifamily Program, including on site assessment of mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems and building enclosure;
• Developing recommendations for energy efficient upgrades to systems, including plumbing, HVAC, lighting, on-site generation, and other energy and water systems;
• Conducting quality control inspections of in process and completed projects;
• Generating audit and inspection reports;
• Managing a large volume of projects and associated documentation to ensure that the scoped and completed work is to specification;
• Analyzing energy usage, carbon emissions, and calculating savings using spreadsheet and other analytical tools;
• Estimating implementation costs and conducting cost-benefit analysis of upgrades;
• Preparing conceptual designs and specifications;
• Conducting peer review of plans and specifications prepared by others.
New Ecology typically seeks to hire multidisciplinary, lifelong learners who naturally seek deeper and deeper understanding of how buildings operate, how finances, markets and regulations affect building ownership, and how this understanding can be used to convince owners and operators to adapt greener practices.
Required Qualifications:
• A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field;
• Experience in evaluation of building mechanical systems and other building systems, HVAC design, and energy efficiency consulting work;
The ideal candidate will also have:
• An advanced degree;
• Professional designations such as LEED, CEM, BPI Multifamily;
• Ability to manage time effectively and within project budget constraints;
• Ability to be responsible for projects and deliverables;
• Strong writing skills and experience writing reports for clients;
• Experience commissioning and doing forensic diagnosis of HVAC equipment;
• Knowledge of utility rebate programs;
• Experience auditing multifamily, assisted living facilities, and public buildings;
• Physical abilities to inspect all aspects of buildings including accessing basements and roofs, working outside, climbing stairs/ladders, and the ability to handle and carry equipment;
• A valid driver’s license is required, and
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Schedule:
Full time, exempt. Regular travel to job sites and meetings throughout Massachusetts. Occasional travel to our remote offices in Baltimore and Delaware
