JOB SUMMARY:
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) Engineer to join our team. This role will work closely with both our VDC Manager and Senior Sustainability Manager to provide 3D modeling and BIM coordination support to the company’s project management and field staff.  In addition, this role will also be instrumental towards supporting Chapman’s carbon neutrality efforts; specifically working with carbon data through EC3 & BIM, assisting in developing embodied carbon budgets, and delivering project specific strategies towards reducing carbon impacts

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Facilitate collaboration with VDC technology and processes
• Review architectural, structural, and mechanical design models during preconstruction
• Extract measurements, perform proactive 3D clash detection, and develop collision reports to ensure proper coordination of documents and Navisworks models
• Assist VDC Manager in preparing both project specific and general guidelines and processes
• Assist VDC Manager with surveying of existing conditions
• Develop models from point clouds for use during coordination
• Produce VDC material for business development and marketing proposals/interviews
• Develop project specific site logistics plans with construction teams
• Participate and take meeting notes in coordination meetings
• Perform quality assurance/quality control checks on BIM models
• Design, develop and enforce modeling protocol and standards with VDC Manager
• Generate supplemental construction documents for superintendents to improve field performance
• Perform, manage, and track design changes and manage subcontractor documents through Procore
• Analyze and track embodied carbon data across all stages of the project, including design, construction, and operation
• Work with project teams to develop and implement strategies to reduce embodied carbon and environmental impacts
• Utilize software to calculate embodied carbon budgets and develop reports and visualizations to communicate results and identify areas for improvement
• Stay up-to-date with industry trends, advancements in VDC technology, and new developments in embodied carbon reduction strategies

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
• Four-year degree from college or university; or two years related experience in the field of drafting/CAD operation, construction management, construction science, engineering, architecture or similar
• Knowledge and passion for sustainable design and construction practices, LEED certification, Passive House and other environmental certifications
• Knowledge of commercial building construction
• Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent organizational skills
• Ability to multi-task
• Highly motivated, self-starter
• The desire to work collaboratively with a team of construction professionals

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• AutoCAD: 2 years
• Revit: 3 years
• Navisworks: 1 year
