On Friday, November 7, 2014 NESEA hosted a BuildingEnergy Pro Tour in Rhode Island. 46 professionals joined NESEA on tours of two homes in Jamestown and Tiverton, one a single family home designed to achieve zero energy status with a 12kW solar array that powers the geothermal heating system and the plug loads for the house, and another in Tiverton built on spec and designed to be net zero yet priced competitively with non net zero homes built on spec in the area.

This early summer tour featured a net-zero energy single-family home in the Adirondacks.

Using heat pumps to electrify heating and cooling is a common approach to decarbonizing buildings. To achieve the goals of the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act, New York State must quickly move from a building-by-building approach to a community-by-community approach. This virtual Pro Tour went behind-the-scenes with members of the team responsible for the Tree of Life project, a new building in Queens that includes 174 units of Passive House certified housing, a community health center, and a community facility operated by the First Presbyterian Church of Jamaica. We heard how the project team worked together to satisfy both high performance certification goals and the needs of the community the building was designed to serve.

This virtual Pro Tour offered participants a behind-the-scenes look at a unique renovation in Manhattan: the transformation of a historic firehouse into 4 units of PHI-certified passive housing.

This virtual Pro Tour offered participants a behind-the-scenes look at one of the most ambitious PHIUS+ projects in New York City: an innovative fifteen-story building providing 154-units of sustainable housing. NESEA worked with hosting firm and Passive House consultant and verifier Bright Power to offer this follow-up event to 2019's sold out tour of this site.

NESEA's first virtual Pro Tour, featured an award-winning Passive House retrofit of a three family building in the Hudson Valley. During this interactive event, participants learned about the goals of the project and heard directly from the professionals who made it a reality. Just like an in-person Pro Tour, this event mixed presentation with small group conversation, giving participants the chance to meet project team members and one another.

NESEA and Yestermorrow Design/Build School partnered up to host an intensive (and intensely awesome) 2.5 day learning experience and high performance buildings tour in Vermont. Led by Andy Shapiro of Energy Balance, Inc, participants were able to interact with some of the region’s leading high performance building practitioners, delving deeply into the details of outstanding projects, asked questions and got feedback on pressing building questions.
