A sustainability advocate and educator, Meredith joined Built Environment Plus (formerly USGBC MA) as Executive Director in November 2017 where she drives the sustainability of the built environment through education, community building, tools and research, and advocacy initiatives.
Meredith founded the Elbaum Group in July 2012. She provided sustainability consulting services to the University of Missouri focused on the University's Climate Action Plan, its Campus Sustainable Building Design Guidelines and Building Projects. In addition to working with MU, Meredith consulted with the Health Product Declaration Collaborative, an organization bringing transparency to building products as they relate to human health and has worked with Tufts University on the health effects of near highway communities. She also consulted regularly to architects and designers on increasing the sustainability of their projects.
Combining her professional experience as a registered architect with her personal commitment to sustainable design, prior to forming the Elbaum Group, Meredith served as the Director of Sustainable Design at Sasaki Associates, an international planning and design firm. In that role, she accelerated the level of sustainability both in the firm's project work and its own practice. Her experience is diverse including developing comprehensive Climate Action plans, conducting renewable energy feasibility studies, designing LEED Platinum Buildings and creating sustainable education material.
As a leader in the sustainable building industry, in 2008 Meredith co-convened the first-ever summit of sustainability leaders from the most successful design firms. The group continues to gather annually. Meredith has been on the faculty of Wentworth University and the Boston Architectural College. She's also lectured on Sustainable Planning and Architecture at Harvard University in its Executive Education Program, speaks regularly as conferences and serves as a guest lecturer at other institutions.
